After the kerfuffle over last year’s Pride Parade on whether Corrections would be allowed to march, the Pride board have decided that they will not be invited this year.

Even though Corrections walked last year, and the year before, groups such as No Pride in Prisons have protested their involvement in Pride, especially due to their treatment of trans prisoners.

Corrections was initially only going to be allowed to march if they implemented policies to support trans prisoners. However, the board was not convinced that enough change had been made, hence their decision to ban Corrections from marching in uniform.

Of course, Corrections staff are more than welcome to march in the parade, so long as they do not wear uniform.
