The wearing of spectacles is a statement of style and sophistication made famous in 20th century pop culture by icons Iris Apfel, Andy Warhol, Spike Lee, Elvis Costello, and movie characters Holly Golightly, Annie Hall and Lelaina Pierce.

Today eyewear companies are falling over themselves to garner celebrity endorsement – Gigi Hadid for Vogue, Kylie Minogue for Specsavers – with the sole purpose of the buyer being touched by the hand of celebrity “god”. So how do you discover your look?

Famous for his street style, Aucklander Loic Kedecc “always wears glasses”.

“I don’t follow trends, I do my own thing. I never try to “do that look”. Glasses are just cool. And the best thing about clear glasses is you can wear them day or night.”

“Glasses are a statement piece for me. For me it’s like wearing a watch. If I’m not wearing a watch or glasses I’m not done. I can wear cheap glasses or expensive glasses, clear or normal sunglasses, they all top off the look.”

Kedecc says there are no rules to wearing glasses and people should just do what they love when it comes to choosing them.

“I don’t follow trends, I do my own thing. I never try to “do that look”. Glasses are just cool. And the best thing about clear glasses is you can wear them day or night.”

He adds that when wearing glasses he feels “invincible”.

“It’s like putting on another personality. No one can see you, you’re behind a wall but you’re not. There’s a certain cool factor to wearing glasses.”

Kedecc says eyewear is the style calling card ready for the taking. Colour, style, shape, lens and frames are all up for grabs.
