Whether you’re looking to entertain your kids or giving your siblings a break and being the perfect ‘guncle’, join the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra for two big screen adaptations of works by beloved author and children’s laureate Julia Donaldson (The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child).

For those who have never attended one of the APO’s hugely popular films in concerts, the films are projected on the big screen in the Aotea Centre above the stage while the full orchestra performs live along with the action. It is the perfect family outing to introduce the kids to the world of orchestral music and promises to be a magical event that your littlies will never forget!

The Academy Award-nominated short film Room on the Broom (2012) features the voice talents of Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Simon Pegg (Shaun Of The Dead), Martin Clunes (Doc Martin), Rob Brydon (The Trip series) and David Walliams (Britain’s Got Talent). It is a magical tale about friendship and family, following the story of a kind witch who invites a surprising collection of animals to join her on her Broom, much to the frustration of her cat.

This is paired with the adventures of a father, separated from his family, who must overcome many challenges to be home in time for Christmas.

The twist? He is a stick, and his home is the “family tree”! Stick Man (2015) is a delightful BAFTA award-nominated animated short film with a star-studded voice cast including Martin Freeman (The Office UK), Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) and Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey).

Don’t miss your chance to see Room On The Broom live with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra! 11.30 am and 2.00 pm, Saturday 15 October at the Aotea Cantre.
