Saturday 10 September will see the biggest drag spectacular to ever grace Palmerston North, Palmy Drag Fest, take over the Regent on Broadway! Drag Race Down Under Season One star Karen From Finance tells us about what we can expect from her performance and why drag is more exciting than ever!

What can we expect from your performance at Palmy Drag Fest?
I’m going to be bringing all of the trademark Karen From Finance-ness’es-es… The office jokes, the corporate puns, the ridiculous business suits, everything that Karen From Finance is known for is getting shoved into my suitcase and I’m going to dial it up to one hundred!Have you ever performed in Palmerston North before, and what do you expect the crowd to be like?

I’ve never been to Palmerston North! I’ve really only been to the capital cities in NZ, however my first trip over I made it to Taranaki and we had one of the most generous and enthusiastic audiences I’ve ever performed to, some I guess I’m kind of expecting / hoping or something similar to that!?

What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about drag performers?

I think that the biggest misconception is that drag shows are always the same. With such a wide array of performers and talents these days, you NEVER know what to expect, and for me – that’s one of the most exciting things about drag!

What is exciting you most about drag right now?

I think now more than ever, the rules of drag have flown out the window. Drag is for everyone, and there are some really exciting talents and performers rising up in the scene all around the world. It’s keeping the girls that have been in the game for a while on their toes, and reinventing an industry that thrives on rejuvenation and innovation. We have no idea where drag is headed and I’m so excited to be riding the wave with it!

If you could perform a drag show anywhere in the world – where would you choose and why?

Well, Palmerston North of course – specifically at the Regent on Broadway! An absolutely stunning theatre in a stunning location with an even more stunning cast – what more could a corporate office gal like me ask for!?
