Global cases of Mpox (formerly Monkeypox) have continued to drop since the 2022 outbreak, and now Te Whatu Ora have changed the way you can access the vaccine.
MPox has had nearly 90,000 cases in 114 countries leading to 157 deaths worldwide, but despite initial fears the disease could spike during the WorldPride and the Northern Hemisphere’s Pride season (Summer), the spread has continued to decrease.
Due to this success, in Aotearoa New Zealand MPox vaccines will now only be available via consultations with your GP or through sexual health clinics. The same applies for booster jabs of the vaccine.
Body Positive Executive Director Mark Fisher believes this is a good thing, telling YOUR EX: “It’s good that access is being normalized through GPs and sexual health for those that are still interested.”
