Taylor Zakhar Perez has expressed interest in a possible follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster film “Red, White & Royal Blue” based on Casey McQuiston’s beloved LGBTQ+ novel released in 2019.
The cinematic adaptation by Matthew López in August 2023 captivated a new wave of fans with its passionate and sincere narrative.
The film adaptation of “Red, White & Royal Blue” by Matthew López quickly soared to fame, securing its spot as one of Prime Video’s top-viewed movies and sparking widespread buzz online.
Amidst growing clamour for a sequel, highlighted by a change.org petition in November 2023, McQuiston hinted at future developments to Out Magazine, suggesting more content might be on the horizon without divulging details.
Perez, portraying Alex Claremont-Diaz, the bisexual protagonist and son of the United States’ first female president, Ellen Claremont (played by Uma Thurman), shared his sequel aspirations during an interview with Entertainment Weekly on the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet.
Perez speculated on the characters’ future, suggesting a setting in Brooklyn as a logical next step and pondering Alex’s potential venture into politics, reflecting his hopes for the storyline’s direction.
McQuiston has also indicated that additional stories about Alex and Henry’s relationship may be on the cards.
Similarly, López conveyed his openness to a sequel, stressing the importance of a meaningful narrative as the foundation for any follow-up project, as he shared with Teen Vogue, emphasising that any sequel should be driven by more than just the audience’s demand, underscoring the need for a compelling storyline to justify its creation.
