A petition titled “We are against open and hidden LGBT propaganda in the Republic of Kazakhstan!” has garnered the required number of signatures for official consideration.
According to reports from El.kz, the petition, which was published on the official portal “E-Petition.kz,” has now been accepted for review under Article 90-4 of the Administrative Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As per Article 90-5 of the same code, the Ministry of Culture and Information now has up to 40 working days from the petition’s registration date to consider it.
The Ministry, which will now coordinate a working group that includes representatives from various interested parties, government bodies, and public associations, will then decide whether a new law will be derived from the petition.
While there have been some legal advances in Kazakhstan in past years, the LGBTQ+ community continues to face significant social and legal hurdles. The overall environment remains hostile, with limited protection and acceptance for LGBTQ+ individuals.
