Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have reportedly left the United States after Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election. The move comes as the former talk show host continues to navigate public scrutiny, having recently returned to Netflix with a second and final stand-up special following allegations of workplace misconduct.

According to sources, the couple has relocated to the Cotswolds in South West England, a region known for its picturesque countryside and high-profile residents, including David and Victoria Beckham, Jeremy Clarkson, and Elizabeth Hurley. The decision to leave the US reportedly stemmed from their reaction to the election results, which saw Trump securing a second non-consecutive term.

The couple’s Balinese-inspired mansion in Montecito, California, has also been listed for sale. Purchased in 2019 for USD 27 million, the luxurious property boasts five bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and an infinity pool.

Insiders have suggested that DeGeneres and de Rossi had already bought property in England prior to the election but became increasingly disillusioned after Trump’s win. One source told TMZ that the pair felt compelled to “get the hell out” of the country.

The couple’s relocation coincides with a broader trend of anxiety among LGBTQ+ individuals in the US, particularly following Trump’s re-election. On 6 November, Google searches for “LGBTQ+ safe countries to move to” surged, highlighting concerns about potential threats to queer rights under the new administration.

Representatives for DeGeneres and de Rossi have yet to comment on the reports.
