Alisher Qodirov, the head of Uzbekistan’s Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival) party, has announced that a draft law banning discussions surrounding LGBTQ+ topics is currently being discussed in Uzbekistan.

Qodirov disclosed this on his Telegram channel, referencing a recent social media post by Ivanka Trump, daughter of former U.S. President Donald Trump. In her post, Trump highlighted her father’s intention to cut federal funding to schools that promote what he referred to as “inappropriate sexual content” and “transgender ideology.”

In his comments, Qodirov remarked, “The change in the centre of the disease is very good,” indicating his approval of similar actions in Uzbekistan. He further noted, “We are working on adopting a law prohibiting any kind of propaganda in this regard,” but provided no additional details on the proposed legislation.

Qodirov has previously called for the banning of Soviet symbols and ideology within Uzbekistan, underscoring his stance against influences he deems harmful to national identity.

This announcement follows a recent incident in Samarkand, where a pensioner advocating for the restoration of the Soviet Union was sentenced to three years of restricted freedom after authorities deemed his actions a threat to Uzbekistan’s constitutional order.
