A video posted by pop Melbourne gay bar, The Laird, is causing online debate and threats of calling the ‘health department’.
Australia’s longest-running gay-owned and operated bar and accommodation, The Laird Melbourne, is at the centre of a controversial debate online after posting a video on Instagram of a kink area some are calling ‘the red room’ set up at the bar.
The video shows a plastic curtain, marked with large letters spelling out ‘PISS’. The curtain sits above a metal grate floor with a bathtub sitting on the floor below.
Some of the bar’s followers have objected to many beer kegs that are placed around the bathtub – some even seemingly touching it.

“Thanks for allowing us proof to call the health department,” commented Instagram user tommyb482.
Followed by zookadverntures writing “Not on the fkn beer kegs man” in a comment that gained 270 likes.
“Hope those are the empty kegs” and “kinks don’t have to be health code violations,” other followers chimed in.
However the negative comments are dwarfed by those praising the bar for offering a safe space for patrons to live out their kinks.
The video has received over 6000 likes on Instagram.
Comments include many patrons saying how good the party was and others defending the bar against its critics – accusing them of kink-shaming.
“This is why we can’t have anything nice… we start kink-shaming again,” commented joey_mcg.
“Literally my type of establishment,” agreed muscle_dump.
“Thank you for a f” ing fun night… The music was spot on too,” commented david.holmes.370515.
The Laird’s website says the bar “is a haven, meeting place and party space for same-sex attracted CIS and Trans males.”
YOUR EX has contacted The Laird for comment and to clarify if the kegs are empty or yet to be used.
