The World Cup is well underway, which means there is plenty of football to watch day and night.
But as with any major sporting tournament, it is not just what happens on the pitch that has fans talking.
The girls and the gays have their eyes firmly on some of the world’s most swoon-worthy stars, and one Swedish player is getting more than a little love on social media.
Meet Lucas Bergvall, the 20-year-old midfielder wearing the yellow and blue for Sweden.
Bergvall, who also plays for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, became Sweden’s youngest-ever player at a World Cup when he came off the bench during Sweden’s 5-1 win over Tunisia in Monterrey. Tottenham confirmed Bergvall was 20 years, four months and 13 days old when he made the appearance.
The Guardian previously named Bergvall among the world’s top young footballers in 2023, and his performance against Tunisia only added to the hype around one of Sweden’s brightest young talents.

Of course, fans have also noticed that Bergvall brings more than footballing skill to the tournament.
Since his World Cup appearance, social media has been filled with posts admiring the midfielder’s blonde hair, face card and match-day presence.
Some viewers joked they would be turning the match off the second Bergvall left the pitch, while others questioned whether he was actually good at football or simply coasting on good looks.
The answer, inconveniently for the haters, appears to be both.
When Bergvall made his debut for Tottenham last year, he marked the moment with a collage on Instagram, where fans were quick to flood the comments with compliments, including “Beautiful man”.

Other posts have focused on his hair routine, while some have been less subtle in admiring the midfielder’s physique.
Football has always had room for players whose charisma travels beyond the sport itself.
Stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar have built global fanbases not only through their talent, but through their style, confidence and star power.
If Bergvall continues developing his game, his mix of skill, charm and camera-ready appeal could see him become one of the World Cup’s breakout fan favourites.
For now, Sweden has a rising midfield talent — and the internet has a new tournament crush.
