Troye Sivan Gets Steamy On Fire Island In New ‘FF’ Video

Troye Sivan has followed the release of his fourth album, She’s the Best, with a sensual new video for “FF” — a Fire Island-set celebration of queer desire, intimacy and safer sex.

Troye Sivan is not exactly easing into his latest era quietly.

Fresh from releasing his fourth studio album She’s the Best, the gay pop star has unveiled the video for “FF”, short for “Fuck Forever” — and he had already warned fans that it might be the “gayest music video” of his career.

He was not exaggerating.

Directed by longtime collaborator Gordon von Steiner and filmed on Fire Island, the video pairs Sivan with Swedish actor Felix Mayr in a hazy, intimate portrait of queer romance and desire.

There are kisses, beach-house intimacy and a steamed-up shower — but the video is not simply an exercise in thirst.

At its centre is a song about longing.

Sivan describes “FF” as an “undying love song” to a man he has not met yet, imagining the future relationship he hopes might eventually arrive.

“It might sound like a vow, but it’s really a wish,” he said of the track.

Fire Island, fantasy and queer history

The location is significant.

Fire Island — particularly Cherry Grove and the Fire Island Pines — has long been associated with LGBTQ+ life, nightlife and community in the United States – Check out Matt Fistonich’s recent trip to Fire Island & NYC HERE!

Sivan’s team describes the setting as part of the video’s exploration of “lustful rapture, connection and the thrill of possibility”.

For queer viewers, that gives “FF” another layer.

Rather than treating intimacy between men as something coded or hidden, the video places it directly at the centre of a glossy mainstream pop release.

It is sensual, romantic and intentionally gay.

PrEP makes an appearance

There is also one unusually direct piece of sexual-health visibility.

During the video, Sivan is shown taking a PrEP pill supplied by MISTR, the US telehealth provider focused on HIV prevention and sexual health.

PrEP — pre-exposure prophylaxis — is medication taken by HIV-negative people to substantially reduce their risk of acquiring HIV when used as prescribed.

For a mainstream queer pop video to show PrEP so casually places HIV prevention alongside desire rather than separating sexual health from sex itself.

The placement is commercial — MISTR is visibly featured — but the imagery also normalises something that remains an important part of HIV prevention for many gay and bisexual men and other people at increased risk.

Leland says the representation matters

Sivan’s longtime collaborator and friend Leland, who co-wrote the album, told Out the video immediately reminded him of how powerful queer imagery in pop music can be.

He recalled seeing two men kiss in Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” video when he was younger and said that moment remained embedded in his memory.

“This would have made such an impact on little Leland,” he said of “FF”.

That may be the more enduring point behind the video.

For younger queer audiences growing up with artists such as Sivan, two men kissing in a major pop video may feel far less extraordinary than it did a generation ago.

That change did not happen by accident.

Another side of She’s the Best

“FF” also provides a contrast to the album’s louder early singles.

The title track, “She’s the Best”, celebrates the women and femme people who have shaped Sivan’s life, while “Party” leans into queer nightlife and release.

“FF”, meanwhile, turns towards loneliness, vulnerability and wanting something more lasting.

Sivan has described the album as moving between the high-energy experiences of recent years and the solitude that existed underneath them.

The result is a project that makes space for both sides of queer life: the party and what happens when everyone goes home.

And for a singer who has spent more than a decade becoming increasingly comfortable putting gay desire directly into his work, “FF” feels less like provocation than confidence.

He called it “GAY gay”.

At this point, that might simply be the brand.
