Sydney erupted in colour as the 48th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade took over the city on Saturday, 28 February 2026. From Oxford Street to Flinders Street to Moore Park Road, became a sea of glitter, bodies and banners as hundreds of thousands gathered for one of the world’s most iconic Pride celebrations.
An estimated 250,000 spectators lined the parade route while more than 10,000 marchers across 170+ floats brought this year’s festival theme, ECSTATICA, vividly to life. Pulsing music, bold costumes and dazzling choreography transformed the night into a moving spectacle of queer creativity, visibility and defiant pride.
As always, the Parade honoured its roots, Dykes on Bikes roared through the crowd to open the procession, followed by First Nations marchers and the legendary 78ers, whose activism sparked the original Mardi Gras protest in 1978. From there, community groups, performers and organisations delivered a vibrant procession of floats celebrating identity, activism and queer culture.
Among the highlights was the debut of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Community Float, paying tribute to beloved Australian comedian and queer icon Magda Szubanski.
