Nicki Minaj has sparked widespread backlash after publicly aligning herself with President Donald Trump during his current administration, a move that has surprised many across the entertainment industry.
The rapper has gone as far as calling herself his “biggest fan” and has drawn criticism for supporting rhetoric widely viewed as harmful to the LGBTQ+ community, particularly trans youth.
At the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party, a number of outspoken queer celebrities didn’t hold back when asked about Minaj’s recent stance. The candid responses came during interviews conducted by Ricky Cornish for OUT, capturing a mix of sharp critique and unapologetic shade.
Orville Peck dismissed the situation bluntly, saying, “Fuck you! Who has the time? Girl, it’s so tired. Who has the energy? It’s so much harder to be that way. You have your choice, but step aside.”
Chris Colfer appeared unfazed, adding, “I also don’t really think it’s that big of a loss. I’m a Cardi boy!”
Valentina took a more cutting approach, remarking, “If ICE is picking up a bunch of people, they should get her!”
Bronwyn Newport made her stance clear, stating, “I no longer listen to your music Nicki! How about that?”
Zane Phillips also weighed in, saying, “Mar-A-Lago does not suit you! She looks a mess either way.”
Manila Luzon added, “She’s desperate… and this is coming from a desperate queen, OK?! I’m not that desperate.”
Monét X Change didn’t mince words either: “You look sloppy and you should stop. That’s what happen when you turn on the gays. We’ll turn on you!”
Lushious Massacr questioned the rapper’s current standing, saying, “I don’t even know if this woman has money anymore. She’s clearly struggling!”
Kerri Colby referenced Minaj’s alter ego, adding, “Where’s Roman? I need you to connect with Roman, girl.”
Gia Gunn urged the rapper not to forget her roots, saying, “Don’t forget where you came from, bitch. We’ve been supporting you since day one.”
Colton Haynes reflected on the broader impact, stating, “You had that illustrious career and then you turn on the people who give you everything you have right now? I just feel a little unsettled by that.”
The strong reactions highlight growing frustration within the queer community, with many voices using platforms like OUT to speak out against public figures they feel have turned their backs on LGBTQ+ fans.
