The New Zealand International Film Festival 2014 has many a treat in store as it makes it’s way around Aotearoa.Â
express top pick | Eastern Boys
The boys come from all over Eastern Europe : Russia, Ukraine, Moldavia… The eldest appear to be no older than twenty five and the youngest very young indeed. They spend all their time hanging around the Gare du Nord train station in Paris. Some are rent boys, others not.
Daniel, a discreet man in his early fifties, has his eye on one of them – Marek. He plucks up enough courage to talk to him and Marek agrees to visit Daniel at his place the following day.
Eastern Boys portrays characters living clandestinely who represent both a danger and a promise for one another. The film threads its way through ambiguous feelings, borderline situations and moments of pure jubilation.
