Urge Bar is set to close in February after 17 years in business.
Urge Bar primarily served the leather and bear community, which will now be left without a bar.
The closure of Urge will mean that Auckland will be left with just one official gay bar and nightclub, K Road’s Family.

The decision was announced at Urge’s 17th birthday party late last night.
It is understood that Urge Bar has been under considerable financial pressure for some time, facing a combination of rising rent and steadily declining sales revenue.
Urge Bar’s final night will be at the conclusion of the Get it On! Bear New Zealand Week in February.
