Jonathan Smith has been made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to people living with HIV/AIDS.
“I’m absolutely honoured and delighted to have received the award on behalf of those living with HIV/AIDS and those who lost their lives to it,” he tells express.
Smith was nominated to receive the honour by the New Zealand AIDS Foundation and tells us, “he only just found our about it” as nominees were announced.
Smith is one half of the drag queen act Buffy and Bimbo and will be performing at the LYC Big Gay Out on Saturday 7 February, sharing the MC duties with Buckwheat and Miss Ribena.
