Rainbow Youth will be the recipient of a theatre fundraiser taking place on Wednesday 25 May! Phoenix Theatre is presenting Move Over Mrs Markham by Ray Cooney and John Chapman, directed by Sean Dwyer. The play is promised to be a “good laugh” and nibbles are to be provided with your ticket.

“I came out late in life” says director Sean Dwyer, “and it was something that my children just couldn’t handle and as a result I’ve not seen or heard from them in 19 months – it’s been a very heartbreaking experience for me and I know I’m not alone as others have suffered the same fate. As a result I’ve become quite passionate about making sure that young people know who they are from an early age and don’t make the same mistake that I made.” Dwyer says that Rainbow Youth is the perfect recipient of the events fundraising because it helps to educate young people in accepting themselves and others.

The play itself is about Philip Markham, a straight-laced London publisher who agrees to let his business partner Henry Lodge borrow his apartment for the evening to “entertain” his latest girlfriend. At the same time, Joanna Markham is persuaded by Linda Lodge to let her borrow the apartment, so she can “entertain” her lover. What nobody knows is that the interior designer who has been decorating the apartment for the past three months has decided that this was the night he and the au pair would try out the new oval bed. The Markham’s are delayed in leaving the apartment as Olive Harriet Smythe (a no-sex-please very successful but very conservative author of children’s books) has unexpectedly arrived looking for a new publisher, so when all three couples converge on the apartment, expecting to find it empty, the ultimate in chaos, confusion and madcap hilarity ensues!
