After the Warkworth bakery debacle, it’s great to know we now have an extremely talented gay baker in Auckland doing gorgeous bespoke cakes, who won’t be discriminating against clientele. You can taste Bertrand Jang’s beautiful wares at the Sweet and Me stand at La Cigale Markets in the weekends. Bertrand has a really impressive culinary CV and has gone back to his Pacific roots making incredible sweet creations using Koko Samoa, pineapple, coconut and other ingredients from the islands.


A Cactus Snack

We love nothing more than a delicious hidden gem and Cielto Lindo is certainly well hidden. In the middle of a very industrial area in Henderson, a couple have recently started turning out fantastic real-deal Mexican tacos, quesadillas and sopes – they even do nopales (cactus) as a filling. A daytime lunch bar (they are open in the weekends too) with a couple of tables, but definitely worth checking out. We’ll be back for those beef cheek tacos with home-made salsa.
