Israel Folau’s GoFundMe page has been officially shut down with the fundraising site confirming the page violates the terms of service of GoFundMe.
Folau’s fundraising page aimed to raise $3 million dollars to assist with his legal fight against Rugby Australia after his contract was torn up for refusing to remove his homophobic posts on social media.
In a statement following the removal of the page from the site, GoFundMe said all of the donations will be refunded to their donors.
“After a period of routine evaluation, we have concluded that this campaign violates our terms of service. As a company, we are absolutely committed to the fight for equality LGBTIQ+ people and fostering an environment of inclusion,” GoFundMe confirmed in a statement.
The statement added, “While we welcome GoFundMes engaging in diverse civil debate, we do not tolerate the promotion of discrimination and exclusion.”
Since the establishment of the page on Friday the 21st of June 2019 it had already raised more than $1 million.
