The annual Auckland Rainbow Dog Show, Woof, is set to take over lower Western Park tomorrow.

Weather reports are forecasting a fine sunny day and organiser MC/Organiser Steven Oates has been encouraging people to bring some form of shade on Social Media; “We want you and your pooches to stay cool in the shade, so don’t hesitate to bring an umbrella or some other shade device” Oates also informs us there will be ice creams, coffee and other refreshments available for purchase to keep punters cool and sustained throughout the afternoons activities.

A panel of celebrity judges will be on hand scoring people and pooches in categories like: Best Dressed, Dog & Owner Lookalike, Most Camp, Most Butch, Wee Woofers (kids), Best Trick/Talent and the coveted Best In Show prize! The judging line up is comprised of Shortland Streets Ben Barrington, singbird Annie Crummer, funnyman Tom Sainsbury and ever popular Buckwheat.

Now in its ninth year, Woof! goes from strength to strength, attracting a large and diverse crowd. Oates tells us everyone is welcome. “Woof! is an event proudly created by members of the rainbow community with a strong rainbow flavour. Can you think of any other dog show with categories like most camp and most butch?! But really anyone can enter or just come and watch. The most important thing is that you love dogs and you want to come along and celebrate them for an afternoon in the park.”

Woof! takes place in lower Western Park, Ponsonby with the furry action kicking off at 1pm. Organisers have bene advising people that parking is a bit of a problem  this year due to a lot of roadworks in Freemans Bay, so people who are driving should allow extra time to find a carpark and make their way to the park.

Express wishes the best of luck to all the contestants entering the competition. May the best pup win!
