Lil Nas X has spoken publicly for the first time since his arrest and hospitalisation, describing the ordeal as “terrifying.”

The Grammy-winning rapper, real name Montero Hill, shared a 28-second video on Instagram early Monday, assuring fans he was recovering:

“Your girl is gonna be OK, y’all. OK? She’s going to be all right. Shit. That was fucking terrifying. That was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days. But your girl is gonna be all right.”

Arrest and charges

The 25-year-old was detained in Studio City on 21 August after police responded to reports of a man wandering the streets in underwear. Officers allege Lil Nas X “charged at them” and struck one officer in the face twice.

He was forcibly restrained, handcuffed, and hospitalised on suspicion of a drug overdose before being charged with:

  • Three counts of battery with injury on a police officer
  • One count of resisting arrest

On Monday 25 August, Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty after waiving his arraignment.

Bail and conditions

After three days in jail, the musician was released on $75,000 bail. As part of his release, a judge has ordered him to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week.

He could still face up to three years in prison if convicted of felony-level battery against an officer.

Support from family and legal team

His attorney, Drew Findling, told The Hollywood Reporter:

“He’s never been in trouble for a split second in his existence. We’re not going to let one little event change the trajectory of his amazing life… we’re going to look into it and do the right thing.”

Lil Nas X’s father, Robert Stafford, said his son was “doing great mentally” and “very remorseful for what happened.” He added that his son would get the support he needs and insisted “illegal drugs were absolutely not involved.”
