Urge’s iconic underwear party moves to sexy new venue
G.A.Y Auckland, the sister nightclub of Family Bar, is closed until further notice. YOUR EX understands this is due to remedial work needed following the fire that closed the bar and the venues above it for a few hours last November.
G.A.Y, which changed ownership in December, sits below ground-floor bar Pink Pony and top-floor venue Phoenix, which for the last few years had become a go-to venue for Urge parties.

With compliance needed before reopening, Urge Events has pivoted and chosen Centurian Sauna’s new bar area to now host its Underwear Party on Saturday 31 May.
“This is the first collaboration between two iconic queer Auckland brands,” Urge Events co-owner Paul Heard tells us.
He believes the party will bring something entirely new to the New Zealand dance party scene. “I’m expecting it to feel like you’re in Berlin! There’s a bar and dance floor area and, if you want, you can just stick to that, but if you wish to venture out into the rest of the sauna, you can explore that too.”
“It will be the biggest dark room an Urge party has ever had!” he exclaims.
This King’s Birthday Weekend party comes with a strict dress code: “No shorts, crop tops, singlets, bodysuits or shirts of any kind. Jocks, briefs, and boxers only.”
“We’re all in our undies, come join us!” Paul says.
Tickets for Urge’s Underwear Party can be purchased here.
