To Russia With Love, produced by Sundance Productions, which opens in the United States today, highlights the anti-gay controversy at this year’s Winter Olympics in Russia.
Skjellerup has a strong presence in the film, which also features former tennis star Billie Jean King, diver Greg Louginis and figure skater Johnny Weir, who drives the documentary through his interviews with current and former Olympians and athletes.
“I was very honoured to be involved with To Russia With Love,” Skjellerup says.
“The film captures an interesting time in my life and I am proud to share the screen with other LGBT advocates and athletes.
“The biggest thing I learnt in this process is that everyone feels and experiences differently. The before and aftermath of the Sochi Olympics is still raw for many people.
“I believe there is a lot to be learnt from To Russia With Love, and this film will help bring the conversation back to the issues quickly forgotten in Russia post-Olympics.”
