As DOC Campsite Uretiti Beach’s peak sold-out season comes to a close, we spoke to some attendees to reflect on 2021’s celebrations.

DJ Facu, tells us he took his mixing decks to the beach three nights in a row. “It was amazing to see the number of people that turned up every night and the incredible energy and vibe of everyone. I’m so happy everyone enjoyed and I’m keen to do it again next year!”

“People come from all over New Zealand for this,” another attendee told express. “It’s a real scene now… bigger than any Pride festival in the country!”

But not everyone is happy about that popularity.

Auckland Pride’s Max Tweedie took to Twitter to complain about the celebrations happening while Northland is at the ‘Red’ setting of our Covid traffic light system.

express spoke to Northland Police who confirmed they had no issues with the campsite’s festive celebrations.

“Police did attend the campsite on more than one occasion over the 31st Dec/1st January period as part of our visibility patrols around the District and we were not aware of any issues or incidents of note,” an NZ Police spokesperson tells us.
