Rainbow Kiwis from around Aotearoa will be descending on Christchurch from Friday 10 to Sunday 19 March for the Christchurch Pride Festival.

The volunteer-run festival returns bigger and better than ever on Friday 10 March with their opening Walk of Support, starting from the corner of Cashel and Columbo Street at 5pm, followed by the all-ages Fri-Yay event at Riverside Markets from 6pm, featuring drag shows and family-friendly activities. At 9pm, Castro’s Tapas and Bar will host the R18 FriGay Drinks. Last year this free-event drew nearly 1000 people, and organiser Jill Stevens tells express this year they will be better prepared for its popularity with an extra bar and more staff.

Other major events for the festival include (for the first time since the pandemic) boat party, ‘Queers at Sea’ departing Lyttelton Harbour at 7pm on Saturday 11 March. The hugely popular Pride Bingo, will take place at The Cashmere Club from 6.30pm on Wednesday 15 March. Improve night, Queered Scriptless, featuring an entirely Rainbow cast will return to the Court Theatre at 8pm on Friday 17 March, and to conclude the festival, the Closing Party will be headlined by DJ Jordan Eskra on Saturday 18 March.
