Tributes to the renowned Auckland entertainer Wayne Otter aka Miss K flood social media as details of tomorrow’s funeral are announced. 

Miss K aka Wayne Otter’s funeral takes place tomorrow, 10am, at Morrison’s Funeral Home (220 Universal Drive, Henderson).
 
The date and venue for a community-led memorial service will be announced shortly.

Jacqui Grant ONZM has been friends with Otter for many decades and writing to express expressed heartfelt condolences to Wayne’s family and close friends. “Another mighty Kauri has fallen,” she tells us, “but the roots and leaves remain.”

“Wayne or Ella as we knew her appeared in Wellington in the later part of the 1960’s…
Ella was quite a gentle soul… She was popular with everyone.
 
“I guess nearly 20 years past before I saw Ella again but by then he was Wayne had been married and had kids, Ella was gone and Miss K had taken her place.
 
“Wayne did a huge amount for NZAF and worked there for many years, his life experience must have been so valuable over many years.

“He was an entertainer with so much flair and his contribution to Auckland’s community should never be overlooked.

 
“I will never forget Miss K officiated at my daughter’s wedding and afterward did one of the funniest Drag acts I have ever seen, it involved squirting the audience with milk from false boobs and they loved it.
 
“I will miss the two weekly phone calls and most of all our friendship.”
 
Family Bar owner Wayne Clark says Miss K was always looking out for the community and was a caring mother to all. “Family loved always supporting Miss K. She would look after everyone at the club and really cared about everyone in the community.
 
Wellington S&M’s Bar owner Malcolm Vaughn agrees, calling Miss K, “a grand Dame indeed with a heart filled with love and compassion.”
 
Friend Bianca Hartley was also quick to acknowledge Wayne’s contributions to the community.Another icon in our rainbow community who left a huge impact. Working for The Burnett Center… Being a momma for our rainbow youth not to mention entertaining and bringing joy to many thousands of people. You gave your time to everyone who crossed your path. My heart goes out to your children and immediate family and friends.”
