The author of ‘Silent Gays’ Jim Marjoram has spoken to express after he received an email response from Westcity Baptist Church pastor Logan Robertson telling him “I pray that you will commit suicide, you filthy child molesting fag.”
Author Jim Marjoram from the Silent Gays project, which is dedicated to ‘outlining the issues faced by GLBT people in the church and religious structures.’ has spoken to express after receiving the hate filled email from Westcity Baptist Church pastor Logan Robertson in which he says “The Bible says you are vile, strange (queer), reprobate, sodomite, natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed.”
Asked how he felt after reading the email response Marjoram says that “I’m quite resilient generally and was prepared for some backlash with the publishing of my book and setting up Silent Gays, but this took me by surprise Majoram tells express.
“I find it extraordinary that people like this can even use the term Christian to describe themselves. Fortunately, I’ve had a lot of support from so many people, many saying they realise that religion certainly has its problems, but this stuff has nothing to do with what Jesus was all about. It’s very disturbing to think that there are a lot of people around like this, using religion to mask their own psychosis and mental illness.”
Majjoram says that there are some positives from the experience however. “In many ways its opened a can of worms that seems to be working for good, bringing together diverse beliefs and faiths. It may have the complete opposite affect of what he was hoping for!”
Logan Robertson has yet to respond to our repeated calls asking for comment.
