A Tongan church group have set up a protest outside an GLBT rights conference in the nation’s capitol, telling “evil” and “immoral” GLBT rights advocates to “go home.”

Kaniva News reports that the Christian protestors  have hung a banner on the Nuku’alofa waterfront telling GLBT activists across the road at a conference to “go home” as well as labelling them “evil” and “immoral.”

The Christian group are protesting against a conference being organised by the Pacific Sexual Diversity Network, with the theme “Our Voices, Our Communities, Our Rights: Advancing Human rights related to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression in the Pacific.”

Kaniva News reports that the protestors have been set up outside the conference venue since Monday 11th May.

The protest comes just weeks  after the Tongan government announced moves to formally ban same sex marriage in the island nation.
