The United Nations is sending Vitit Muntarbhorn, a human rights expert, to assess LGBT+-friendliness in Argentina. This is the first type of inspection the UN has ever done, with the investigation focusing on what kinds of violence and discrimination are being experienced by Argentinean LGBT+ people.
Muntarbhorn says, “the visit will allow me to identify not only good practices but also issues for which I will provide concrete recommendations to fight violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity”.
His investigation begins in Buenos Aires on 1 March and continue for ten days in which he will be interviewing governmental employees and other civil society organisations working towards promoting the rights of the rainbow community.
