The new Far North District Council chief executive is being investigated for his alleged comments about his councillors referring to “one homosexual”.

The Herald reports that the comments were allegedly made in community meetings and that it is believed a complaint to the Human Rights Commission was made by the only openly gay councillor, Dave Hookway.

Hookway told the Herald “I am aware of the allegations that you have raised and am committed to co-operating with a due process to resolve these to the satisfaction of all parties.”

A number of people present at meetings told the Herald that Clarke referred to one of his councillors as a “homosexual”.

Clarke rejects the claim made by one person that he spoke of “four men, four women and one homosexual”.
