Dua Lipa and Kesha offer up stunning Mardi Gras performances, but it was Sam Smith who stole the show at the Mardi Gras Party, Levi Joule reports.

It’s hard to describe the energy of the 2020 Mardi Gras Party as anything other than electrifying.

The first Mardi Gras party of the decade presented two of the biggest names in British pop music perform before a record sold-out crowd at Sydney’s Moore Park.

Dua Lipa was impressive and her quick succession of bangers well and truly warmed up the crowd. Lipa also pulled all the stops with her outfit, with the pop princess donning a rainbow crop and matching skirt, teamed with bright roller skates to really look the Mardi Gras part.

When it came to outfits though, it was Sam Smith who stole the show.

Smith opened with ‘Latch’ and belted out an impressive medley of dance hits before closing with  ‘Promises,’ while the high notes were hit with perfection, it was their outfit with the word ‘equality’ sprawled across which was the true show stopper.

The 27-year-old was then lifted metres into the air and his paid an emotional tribute to the packed Horton Pavilion in what was their very first Mardi Gras performance.

Kesha then rounded out the big three acts with an emotional performance of ‘Praying’ before performing her signature hit ‘Tik Tok’ and telling the crowd, “there was no place in the world I’d rather be than here with you at 4am in the fucking morning.”

The crowd couldn’t have agreed more!
