The inclusion of a same-sex family in a recent episode of the animated children’s series Peppa Pig has sparked outrage from homophobes describing the inclusion as “indoctrination.”
The new episode that screened last week in the UK titled: Families featured a character – Penny the Polar Bear, telling classmates that they “live with my mommy and my other mommy.”
“One mommy is a doctor, and one mommy cooks spaghetti. I love spaghetti,” Penny the Polar Bear added, resulting in homophobes and spaghetti haters alike calling out the series for the “unacceptable” “gender indoctrination.”
Federico Mollicone, the culture spokesperson for the populist Brothers of Italy political party, has called for the episode to be banned in Italy.
“We cannot accept gender indoctrination. Once again, the politically correct has struck at the expense of our children. Can’t children just be children?” Mollicone told La Stampa newspaper.
British writer and politician Nick Buckley has also hit out at the series, tweeting, “That’s the end of the Peppa Pig phenomenon. What a shame. Education not indoctrination.”
American congressional candidate Irene Armendariz-Jackson also made her thoughts known about Penny the Polar Bear’s parents explaining, “This is not really about LGBTQ representation anymore. This is about teaching our girls that they don’t need men to start families as God intended.”
Penny the Polar Bear and her Mums are yet to comment on why they feel that a fictional children’s television show can make so many homophobes lose their minds.
