Dunedin Pride has announced their first-ever Pink Youth Ball for the Otago region. The ball is for LGBTI+ high school students from ages of 13 – 18y. The ball will take place on Saturday 8 September, at the Otago Museum, with a theme of Outer Space Rainbows!
Tee Bouttier-Esprit, the youth ball co-ordinator for Dunedin Pride, explains the goal of the youth ball, “is to create a safe, affirming space so young people in the queer community can celebrate themselves and have a fun night.” He is encouraging the wider Dunedin community to support the ball by donating the cost of a ticket for a young person.
The ticket donation scheme means that young people who usually couldn’t afford to go to the ball can come along and be part of a fun community event.
Tee encourages parents and caregivers to come along for the first hour to support their young people.
There are limited tickets for the first hour for parents/caregivers which include a cup of tea and an opportunity to meet with the organisers and members of Dunedin Pride Inc.
Tickets and donations are available on Eventbrite.co.nz.
