Christchurch Pride Festival 2022 officially opened with a well-attended walk of support and ribbon-cutting. The ‘bang’ was provided by the brilliant New Zealand Army Band who serenaded the parade. The walk was led by one of the city’s iconic trams, transporting Christchurch Pride Board members, Deputy Mayor Andrew Turner and Green Party MPs Jan Logie and Elizabeth Kerekere among other notables.

Acknowledging the growth of Christchurch Pride, Deputy Mayor Andrew Turner told express: “The great thing about Christchurch Pride is that it’s organised and run by volunteers for the community that they’re part of. I love the way that, as it’s got bigger, Christchurch Pride has remained a community-run festival, but now partners with others such as the Christchurch Foundation, ChristchurchNZ and the City Council to deliver a wider range of events.”

The Christchurch Pride Festival runs until 28 June. For more info visit chchpride.co.nz
