Just hours after President Donald J Trump was sworn in, the LGBT+ page on the White House page disappeared. Initially, typing in whitehouse.gov/lgbt would take you to a page detailing the administration’s work that was LGBT+-related, including a blog and community engagement.
Instead of merely replacing the text for Trump’s policies, the page has been deleted and the link takes you to a page where you can ‘sign up for updates from President Donald J Trump”.
We already knew that Mike Pence is a massive anti-LGBT+ politician, and Trump’s administration never released a policy plan on queer issues, nor any action plan for HIV and AIDS.
LGBT+ issues have now been completely wiped from the website, with searches for “LGBT” turning up zero results. No announcements have been made whether it will be replaced, but this erasure, along with the ‘cleansing’ of any mention of climate change as well, is proving rather worrying.
